I am a part of this project both as a dancer as helping out on production level.
After a succesful presentation of 20minutes of this explosive piece in August – created during two exhausting but amazing weeks of work – we are currently looking for options to produce an evening-long show out of the material we already have.
About the piece: Corneliu Ganea presents a new creation inspired by the loss of physical and mental integrity of soldiers after WWI. This syndrome came to be known as Shell Shock: the traumatic response of a mind/a body incapable of coping with what it had seen, experienced, lived.
For Corneliu, this extreme human reaction to mechanical warfare serves as a trigger to adress a far more universal state of being: The block that comes after any situation where one is overwhelmed by the unexpected. Stress, anxiety, insatisfaction in a world that does not celebrate mildness… aren’t these our present states of shell shock?
In a highly energetic performance – where physicality takes the lead in order to abstract the war thematic and use its energy to compose on a different level – six dancers of different ages and backgrounds exhaust themselves in an attempt to overwhelm the viewer and get to a state of breakdown.
